Summary

Low O2 and high CO2 atmospheres inhibited ethylene production, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid content and ethylene-forming enzyme activity in preclimacteric apples cvs Barnack Beauty and Wagner, stored during 5 days at 20 deg C in comparison to normal atmosphere. Methyl jasmonate reduced 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid level in apples of these cultivars stored in normal atmosphere. It is interesting that methyl jasmonate greatly stimulated ethylene-forming enzyme activity in apples stored in normal atmosphere and low O2 and high CO2 atmospheres.
