Summary

The authors have prepared these superconducting composite tapes using fine grained starting superconducting powder, obtained using liquid nitrogen quenching. After heat treatment at 840-845 deg C for 140 h, the zero-field critical-current density at 77 K was 5700 A/cm². Field dependence of critical-current density was significantly improved and implies a markedly strengthened intergranular coupling. The porosity in the superconducting layers was markedly reduced, which in turn resulted in high density. This is thought to contribute to the significantly improved intergranular coupling and high critical-current density.
