Summary

The effect of various storage methods on loquat fruit quality, respiration rate and ethylene production were investigated. Controlled atmosphere (low O2) did not affect the quality of fruits stored at 25 more or less 5 deg C. Low temperature (3 more or less 1 deg C) prolonged storage life, especially when combined with controlled atmosphere enabling fruits to be stored for more than 40 days. Furthermore, respiration rate, ethylene production and fruit rots were also kept low by low temperature and low O2.
