Summary

Fruits of the avocado cultivar Pinkerton were harvested from 2 areas. The fruits from Tzaneen were waxed, those from Levubu were untreated. They were stored in 5 regimes for 4 weeks. Immediately after storage and at the eating-ripe stage the fruits were assessed for external chilling damage and internal pulpspot and grey pulp. The results are tabulated. They indicated that, overall, the cooler regimes were preferable to warmer ones; senescence was slower and the incidence of grey pulp reduced.
