Ultra-low GWP (<1) solutions for food processing and food preservation.

Summary
In the food processing industry, heat recovery linked to refrigeration systems is a key element in delivering hot water at temperatures that enable vegetables to be processed. However, there is a limit on the temperature that can be achieved through condensing and desuperheating via compressors. These challenging needs can be solved by a heat recovery system capable of both processing foodstuffs at the required temperature and rapidly cooling products through chilled water. A machine based on R-1234ze (GWP<1 was designed capable of delivering hot water at 97ºC but could also immediate cool the product down to 2ºC using chilled water. Also as part of the food processing industry, chiller/freezing systems in the bakery industry can benefit from R-1234ze and CO2 combined solution based on DX and cascade for all process steps, with better CoP than HFCs, ammonia or R-290, and with lower energy consumption. Preserving products in the supermarket industry is a heavy user of energy both for keeping products cool and for ensuring a comfortable environment for customers. Traditionally, refrigeration, heating and air conditioning have been driven by separate systems. New cooling systems have been developed that deliver all these building service requirements in one solution, making boiler, chiller and a.h.u. (air handling unit) unnecessary. These new systems are based in ultra-low GWP refrigerant R-1234ze(E) combined with CO2.
