USE OF MODIFIED ATMOSPHERES IN THE CONSERVATION OF < TENDRAL > MELONS.

Summary

TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON TENDRAL MELONS, STUDYING THE EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURES RANGING BETWEEN 275 AND 290 K (2 AND 17 DEG C), CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE (10% O2 + 12% CO2 AND 10% O2 + 20% CO2 ) ; POLYETHYLENE BOX AND INDIVIDUAL FRUIT WRAPS. THE TEMPERATURES LOWER THAN 280 K (7 DEG C) RESULTED IN CHILLING INJURY. WRAPPED BOXES INHIBITED WEIGHT LOSSES. INDIVIDUAL WRAPS APPEAR EFFICACIOUS.
