Summary

THE HELSINKI ENERGY BOARD SUPPLY ALL ELECTRIC POWER AND 80% HEATING REQUIRED BY THE TOWN BY MEANS OF COGENERATION PL THE MOST RECENT UNITS GENERATE 150 MW ELECTRIC POWER AND 270 MW HEAT FROM A STEAM TURBINE. ONE PART OF THE HEAT REJECTED BY THIS PLANT (1 TO 1.2% OF THE OVERALL CAPACITY OF BOILERS) IS USED AS THE HEAT SOURCE FOR A HEAT PUMP WHOSE HEATING CAPACITY IS 6,750 KILOW WITH A COP OF 4.8. THE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS PREDICTS 4,500 HRS/YEAR AS AN OPTIMUM OPERATING TIME AND AMORTIZATION OF THE HEAT PUMP BETWEEN 3 AND 5 YEARS.
