The road ahead for ammonia and carbon dioxide refrigerants.

Number: pap. 0001

Author(s) : PEARSON A.

Summary

The natural refrigerants carbon dioxide and ammonia are both seen as feasible alternatives to fluorinated hydrocarbons for vapour compression refrigeration and have been widely used over the last 30 years in a wide range of markets. This paper reviews some success stories to date and considers what possible new uses could be added to the range of applications under consideration.
The motivation for change is considered, with several factors classified as supporting or blocking the adoption of these refrigerants.
