A MECHANISM TO SUPPORT PRESERVATION STUDIES OF FRESHLY CAUGHT FISH AND SHELLFISH.

Author(s) : KOLBE E.

Summary

STUDIES RELATED TO ONBOARD STOWAGE AND HANDLING PROCEDURES CARRY A HIGHER DEGREE OF VALIDITY WHEN STOWAGE CONDITIONS ARE IMPOSED ON A FRESHLY CAUGHT SAMPLE BUT THEY ARE EXPENSIVE. THE PAPER DESCRIBES A RELATIVELY LOW COST ALTERNATIVE INCLUDING: A) A TRANSPORTABLE 3.5 KW REFRIGERATION UNIT FOR RSW (REFRIGERATED SEAWATER) ; B) A TRANSPORTABLE 750 L TANK USING SPRAY OR FLOODED TANK ; C) A FLOATING COD END, OR NET BAG, IN WHICH THE PRODUCT IS TRANSFERRED FROM THE FISHING VESSEL TO THE LESS COSTLY RECEIVING VESSEL.
