Summary
A SIMPLIFIED PROCEDURE FOR ESTIMATING THE RANKINE COP FOR VAPOUR COMPRESSION HEAT PUMPS IS PRESENTED. IT REQUIRES ONLY THE LIQUID SPECIFIC HEAT AND THE LATENT HEAT OF VAPORIZATION AT THE EVAPORATING TEMPERATURE. THE PROCEDURE IS TESTED BY ITS APPLICATION TO 8 POTENTIAL HEAT PUMP WORKING FLUIDS FOR WHICH EXACT COP VALUES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. VERY WIDE RANGES OF EVAPORATING AND CONDENSING TEMPERATURES ARE COVERED. THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE PRESENT PROCEDURES CAN PREDICT COP VALUES WITHIN 3-4%.
