Accuracy of a simplified approach for finding the geometric factor of regular geometric shapes during freezing and thawing time prediction.

Summary

Published formulae for ellipsoidal shapes are algebraically simple, but those for regular shapes such as finite cylinders and bricks are much more complex, and this represents an impediment to their use by industrial practitioners. By defining equivalent ellipsoids to represent brick and finite cylinder shapes algebraically simple formulae can be used. With that method errors may be acceptably small in industrial applications where computation resources are limited, where there is significant product variability, and where data, particularly heat transfer coefficients and thermal properties are not easy to evaluate accurately.
