Alternative refrigerants in a household refrigerator.

Summary

Various alternatives to R12 were evaluated as drop-in refrigerants in a household refrigerator. A (non-flammable) mixture of R152a and R227ea is found to be a serious contestant. Data are presented showing charge optimization and effects of charge on performance, including capacity and power consumption. All tests were performed in a 0.47-cubic meter refrigerator with one evaporator coil in the freezer compartment.
