An evaluation of the effect of lubricants on the thermodynamic properties and performance of refrigerant mixtures in refrigeration and air conditioning cycles.

Summary

The state equation, based on the MHV-2 approach, was developed to predict the properties of refrigerant-lubricant mixtures. The equation was used to predict the effect on the cycle performance of the presence of a polyol ester oil in the ternary blend R407A. The results show that in a simple reference cycle (isobar condensation and evaporation, isentropic compression), even a moderate oil percentage (i.e., 2%) can significantly reduce the COP (about -10% for R407A) and the refrigerating effect, under the hypothesis of no superheating at the evaporator outlet.
