Summary
Heat pump, which can improve the quality of thermal energy and meet the demand of high temperature thermal energy, has become the frontier and hot spot of international energy research. However, most heat pumps have temperature lift value below 60°C. The cascade heat pump can effectively improve the temperature rise range of the heat pump system by coupling the low-temperature stage cycle with the high-temperature stage cycle. The matching of working fluids in the internal circulation of the cascade heat pump will have an important impact on the performance of the cascade heat pump. With the promotion of refrigerant substitution and Kigali Amendment, the application of low GWP working fluids has attracted wide attention. The refrigerants used in heat pump systems such as R134a and HTC, usually have high GWP, which have been required to limit their application. As for now, the typical low-GWP refrigerants can be divided into natural fluids and synthetic fluids. Due to different critical temperatures and other thermos-physical properties, each working fluid has its own specific application scenario. Meanwhile, for each working fluid, there inevitably exists some inapplicable working conditions. In this paper, through system modeling and technical scheme optimization, the performance of existing low GWP working fluids in the overlapping cycle is explored under multi-boundary conditions, the performance distribution of different working pairs at high/low temperature is simulated, and the working pairs that should be selected for the overlapping heat pump under specific conditions and the optimal combination scheme in different temperature zones are further pointed out.
