Summary
The word automation leads us to think of efficiency, return on investment, ways to cut expenses and methods to bring high-quality products to the market faster. Our goal should be to automate all repetitive activities while creating and maintaining a system, thereby reducing the potential for manual error. In a seafood processing plant, a large number of activities need to be carried out to bring the catch from the ‘farm’ to the fork. Automating some of the activities can ensure better productivity and improved product quality. In this article we shall list out the processes that seafood goes through in a processing plant, and the scope for incorporating automation in each of these. While the article focuses on shrimp, most of the automation applicable for shrimp can be used for other catch as well.
