Summary
Retrofitting of air-conditioning systems using R12 will be required. For systems in good condition, a simple, economic means of retrofitting in order to use R134a (partial changing of the oil used without changing hoses) and more rigorous procedures are the best means of achieving better performance and longer lifespan following retrofitting.
