CFC REPLACEMENTS ARE COMING, BUT TIME TO DEVELOP THEM IS NEEDED.

Type of article: Article

Summary

REPORTS FROM LEADING US MANUFACTURERS OF FLUOROCARBONS INDICATE THAT R134A AND R123, AS REPLACEMENTS FOR R11 AND R12, ARE WELL AHEAD IN RESEARCH, BUT STILL PRESENT PROBLEMS OF TOXICITY AND OTHER SAFETY FACTORS. THEY WARN THAT IT IS UNLIKELY THAT ANY DIRECT REPLACEMENTS GIVING EXACT CAPACITY IN EXISTING SYSTEMS OR BEING COMPATIBLE WITH EXISTING OILS WILL BE AVAILABLE. REDUCED MANUFACTURE OF R11 AND R12 WILL HOWEVER GO AHEAD IN LINE WITH AGREEMENTS, MOST OF THE REDUCED USAGE BEING IN THE FIELD OF INSULATION FOAM BLOWING. D.W.H.
