AFTER HAVING REVIEWED THE SITUATIONOF REFRIGERATION FLUIDS BEFORE THE ADVENT OF CFCS IN REFRIGERATING TECHNOLOGY, THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE ADVANTAGES AND DRAWBACKS OF THESE COMPOUNDS. THEN, HE EXAMINES THE DANGERS TO THE ENVIRONMENT ENTAILED BY THE USE OF SOME OF THEM, NOTABLY R11, R12 AND R114: STRATOSPHERIC OZONE LAYER DEPLETION AND INFLUENCE ON THE RADIATION BALANCE OF THE EARTH. HE PRESENTS THE OBJECTIVES OF THE MONTREAL PROTOCOL AND EXAMINES THE COMPOUNDS WHICH COULD REPLACE THE REFRIGERANTS CURRENTLY IN QUESTION.
