INCREASINGLY MAINFRAME COMPUTERS ARE USING WATER COOLING TO ABSORB GREATER HEAT LOADS IN A SMALLER SPACE. THE WATER CIRCUIT IS NORMALLY A CLOSED CIRCUIT SYSTEMWHICH LINKS TO A CHILLING SYSTEM THROUGH A WATER TO WATER HEAT EXCHANGER. THE AUTHOR GIVES CONVINCING REASONS WHY SUCH A SYSTEM SHOULD NOT BE SUPPLIED FROM A BUILDING COOLING SYSTEM, YEAR ROUND DEMAND BEING THE MAIN INCOMPATIBILITY. THE NEED FOR 100% STANDBY IS ALSO EXPLAINED, AND SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE CONCERNING ADDITIONAL STANDBY REQUIREMENTS IN EXTREME CASES. D.W.H.
