CO2 hybrid heat pump: the "COOL-HOT" process.

Author(s) : STAICOVICI M. D.

Summary

This work presents a new low pressure heat pumping process COOL-HOT (CO2 loop for Hybrid Operation Thermal-pumping), of CO2/amines-wet compression/re-sorption type. Monoethanolamine is selected as CO2 absorbent. The COOL-HOT process is thermally modelled, following a basic scheme of the compression/resorption cycle. COPs have values within 2.53 and 8.76. A thermal comparison shows that COOL-HOT has superior heating COP values as compared to other experimental ammonia/water compression/resorption systems given in the literature, and that its thermal performance with respect to the Lorenz cycle might be quite high. Technically, being a low pressure process, COOL-HOT has the advantage of a fail-safe operation with respect to the transcritical CO2 cycle, or to other tested compression/resorption cycles.
