Summary
Onions are irradiated 10 to 50 days after harvest at doses of 75 and 100 grays, and stored at 1-10 deg C. Irradiation reduces water loss and germination. Garlic which was irradiated at 70 grays can be stored for 9 months without germinating. Consumers prefer the appearance of the irradiated samples.
