CONTAINERS FOR CHILLING, STOWAGE AND TRANSPORT OF FRESH FISH IN ICE WATER.

Author(s) : HANSEN P.

Summary

ONE OF THE ADVANTAGES OF CHILLED SEAWATER (MIXTURE OF ICE AND SEAWATER) IS THAT IT CHILLS CATCHES MUCH FASTER THAN ICE ALONE ON CONDITION THAT THE MIXTURE IS AGITATED. THERE ARE MUCH LOWER BACTERIAL COUNTS. THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES CHILLED SEAWATER CONTAINERS, METHODS OF ONBOARD STOWAGE AND RESULTS OF SEA TRIALS. THERE IS APPARENTLY NOT, AT THE MOMENT, ANY LARGE SCALE USE OF THESE CHILLED SEAWATER CONTAINERS IN CERTAIN NATIONAL FISHERIES, PARTICULARLY THE SMALLER COASTAL FISHERIES WHICH OPERATE SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZE VESSELS, PARTICULARLY IN THE TROPICAL REGIONS.
