Summary

FOUR VARIETIES OF KIWI FRUIT WERE STORED FOR 180 DAYS UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS: IN NORMAL ATMOSPHERE, IN CA WITH 3% O2 AND 3% CO2, CONTROLLED ETHYLENE ATMOSPHERE, CA WITHOUT ETHYLENE. ONLY ONE VARIETY (HAYWARD) WAS FOUND TO BE SUITABLE FOR STORAGE OVER REASONABLE LENGTHS OF TIME. CA STORAGE PRODUCES POSITIVE RESULTS. THE QUALITY INDICES USED WERE PULP FIRMNESS, DEFORMATION, ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIBILITY (LINEAR TREND IN RELATION TO THE RATE OF FRUIT RIPENING).
