Cryoprotection of psychrophilic yeast species: by the use of additives with cryoprotective media.

Author(s) : BREIEROVA E.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Ten psychrophilic yeast species were tested for their ability to survive the freeze-thawing process while being cryoprotected. Cryoprotection was accomplished by combining penetrating, nonpenetrating cryoagents and antioxidants. The combination of DMSO, extracellular yeast glycoproteins and alpha-tocopherol permit the storage of psychrophilic yeasts with survival of over 60% and preservation of their original features.
