Designs for future refrigerant conversion.

Type of article: Article
Summary
Although ammonia may be the obvious future choice for many industrial refrigeration systems, some owners are cautious and prefer to accept R22 on a short term basis. The author has persuaded some clients to accept plants designed to operate now on R22 with liquid recirculation systems that can be converted to ammonia with little extra cost. The additional first cost is about 18%, mainly for steel rather than non-ferous tube construction, though for ammonia alone, present plant costs are very similar to those for R22. Two causes are quoted. D.W.H.
