DEVELOPMENT OF A SUBSTITUTE FOR R502.

Author(s) : PEARSON S. F., BROWN J.

Summary

THE NEED FOR A DROP-IN REPLACEMENT OF R502 IS DISCUSSED TOGETHER WITH THE PROPERTIES WHICH MAKE R502 A MORE SUITABLE REFRIGERANT THAN R22 FOR LARGE PRESSURE RATIOS USING HERMETIC OR SEMI-HERMETIC COMPRESSORS. THE DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF A CONSTANT BOILING, THREE-COMPONENT MIXTURE OF R22, R218 AND R290 WHICH IS NON-FLAMMABLE IS DESCRIBED. THE RESULTS OF TESTS WHICH COMPARED THE PERFORMANCE OF THE MIXTURE IN A LARGE HERMETIC SYSTEM WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF R22 AND R502 ARE GIVEN.
