Summary

The first section of this activity report presents the DGAL and its services, the DGAL's presence in France and key figures for 2002 (European and national alerts: rate of non-compliance for each pathogen; rate of alerts per product; phytosanitary inspections and controls). The second section focuses on the main actions carried out by the DGAL, such as the national directive on sanitary and phytosanitary policies "from harvest to consumption", the debate on genetically-modified organisms, the scrapie eradication programme, the presence of the corn beetle in France, and the 17th session of the Codex Alimentarius Committee on general principles.
