RESULTS FROM ENERGY SURVEYS IN SEVERAL NEW ZEALAND FREEZING INDUSTRIES TO DETERMINE ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION PER PRODUCTION UNIT ARE GIVEN. WITHIN THESE INDUSTRIES (POULTRY PROCESSING, ICE CREAM AND VEGETABLE FREEZING) FREEZING IS THE MAJOR USER OF ELECTRICITY. SUBDIVISION OF THE OVERALL ELECTRICITY USE INTO THAT USED DIRECTLY IN PROCESSING, AND THAT USED IN NON-PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITIES (SUCH AS MAINTAINING COLD STORES) IS MADE.
