Energy saving in process cooling by use of water as refrigerant.

Author(s) : MADSBOLL H., MINDS G.

Summary

The paper describes the new cooling system based on water-vapour compression. The cooling plant is a two-stage plant with a low-pressure evaporator, a low-stage turbo water vapour compressor, an intermediate cooler/high-stage evaporator, a high-stage turbo compressor and a high-stage condenser. The condenser operates with direct condensation and is cooled by means of cooling towers. The evaporator is of the flash chamber type, so that the condenser and the evaporator are operated without any heat exchanger surfaces. The paper also describes results of steady-state computer simulations on factors such as temperature, power consumption and COP as a function of wet-bulb temperature.
