Summary
Recently, to meet the Montreal Protocol and Kyoto Protocol, reduction of specific fluorocarbon refrigerants and replacement with HFCs that have zero-Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) have nearly reached completion in Japan. However, whereas HFC has zero ODP, its Global Warming Potential (GWP) is high. It is listed as one of the greenhouse effect gases. So it is imperative to act quickly to solve this problem. On the other hand, it is necessary when we choose refrigerants to consider not only GWP but also capacity of equipments when they are used, safety, economy, and Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP) from multi viewpoints. Because climate, operating conditions of refrigerating and air-conditioning appliances, the way these appliances are used, electricity rate system, and applicable laws and regulations are different from country to country. So in this paper, we do not reduce the number of refrigerant candidates yet and we suggest the most suitable refrigerant on each condition with considering also refrigerant characteristics when they are used on equipments.
