Experience with HC refrigerants and projections for future applications.

Summary

The introduction of hydrocarbons in refrigerators starting in 1993 opened the door to new applications of hydrocarbons. This development has taken place during the past four years and gained more and more importance. With the application of secondary-loop systems for those fluids in fields such as supermarkets, where public access prohibits direct evaporation, the disadvantage of dangerous local behaviour could be managed. Now hydrocarbons are in nearly all fields of stationary refrigeration and air conditioning. Hydrocarbons are favoured in many fields because of the similarity of their material and oil compatibility being applied to chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs).
