Experimental study on flow boiling of carbon dioxide in a horizontal small diameter tube.

Author(s) : KOYAMA S., KUWAHARA K., SHINMURA E., et al.

Summary

Problems remain to be solved in terms of heat transfer characteristics in order to design heat exchangers that work with CO2. The study deals with an experimental investigation of flow boiling in a tube of 1.8 mm i.d. and of 640 mm effective heating length, to clarify the heat transfer characteristics of carbon dioxide in a small diameter tube. The local heat transfer coefficients are measured in the range of mass velocity from 100 to 250 kg/m2 and of wall heat flux from 4.18 to 31.9 kW/m2 at constant inlet pressure of about 4.5 or 3.5 MPa.
