Further progress with mixed refrigerants for power saving.

Summary

Reports tests using the original test rig with a R23/R134a blend. States that despite the wide boiling range the unit worked well and gave (COP) between 3.5 and 4.4. The unit was revamped to incorporate new condenser and evaporator designs together with a new patented control system which required a single section evaporator in place of the split unit. The new unit was tested with CO2/R134a blend and two ternary blends. On the basis of these tests results, proposes air conditioning units using the R23/R227 mixture which could give COP values of 4 to 5. Presents a review of the challenge of using mixed refrigerants with the proposed novel control system in water chilling, vehicle air conditioning and process applications.
