Hydrocarbons as a R134a alternative in developing high efficiency compressors.

Summary

The major benefits in efficiency given by R600a are one of the most important options in the development of high efficiency compressors. Because of the flammability issue related to the use of R600a, careful analysis of the risk coming from the use of flammable refrigerants has been carried out. Some safety aspects of the electrical components in explosive atmospheres were also analyzed. A series of chemical analyses to evaluate the reactivity of R600a with the materials used in the compressor show that the chemical stability of the "R600a-oil-compressor" system is equivalent to the R12 based systems and better than R134a.
