Summary

This is supplement n. 1 to the ASER Notebook describing the old methods of accumulating and storing ice, particularly in the southern parts of the western Mediterranean, where the climate, a transition between the Mediterranean and continental types, makes cross-cultural contacts and competition between various methods possible. Table of contents: history of a little known utilisation, snow wells, ice wells, the examples of Provence and Catalogne, the work of the mason and the icemaker, marketing and legal system.
