Summary
This report reviews available data on toxic and ecotoxic effects of this fluorocarbon. Experiments on animals showed the weak acute toxicity of the product; poisoning symptoms are only observed with concentrations in air higher than 700 ppm. Mild irritation is observed after exposure. The product has no genotoxicity. No effects on man have been reported. Nevertheless, the AIHA (American Industrial Hygiene Association) has set a 1000 ppm (4250 milligrams/m3) mean exposure limit value (weighted over 8 h) for R134a.
