THE PAPER GIVES DETAILS OF RESEARCH ON THE EFFECT OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN THE STORAGE ATMOSPHERE ON THE CONTROL OF BACTERIAL SPOILAGE ON MUSCLE FOODS, MEAT, POULTRY AND FISH. THE RESULTS OF TRIALS WITH DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERES AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES ARE SHOWN GRAPHICALLY AND IN A TABLE. BROADLY CONCENTRATIONS OF CO2 AT 20 PER CENT TEND TO BE MOST EFFECTIVE. C.R.F.
