FROM 1985 TO 1988 THE CONSUMPTION OF POTATOES IN FRANCE INCREASED BY 23% AND OF FROZEN POTATOES BY 58%. AMONG THESE FROZEN POTATO PRODUCTS, FRENCH FRIES ACCOUNT FOR 50%, THE < POMMES NOISETTES > AND THE ROASTED < POMMES > 20% EACH. THE SALES OF NEW PRODUCTS ARE INCREASING RAPIDLY. THREE MAIN MANUFACTURERS ARE COMPETING FOR THE MARKET, WITH SUPERMARKET-BRANDS WHICH ARE VERY WELL IMPLANTED. DOMESTIC PRODUCTION IS INSUFFICIENT AND IMPORTS ARE INCREASING ; HOWEVER, EXPORTS ARE EXPANDING. J.L.
