THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PROPANE ARE REVIEWED, AND ITS VARIOUS PROPERTIES ARE STUDIED AND COMPARED TO THOSE OF OTHER FLUIDS: MODIFICATION OF THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF THE SYSTEM AND OF ITS OPERATION MODE, INFLUENCE ON THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT, COST OF THE FLUID, TOXICITY AND SAFETY. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT PROPANE IS AN ATTRACTIVE SUBSTITUTE FOR CFCS FOR LOW-CAPACITY SYSTEMS. J.L.
