Summary

The French factories "Daregal" in Milly-la-Forêt (near Paris) and "Le Barp" (near Bordeaux) are the most important in Europe, with a freeze-drying capacity of 200 tons a day of aromatic herbs. The reasons for this success are given: good growing areas, continued research & development, adaptation of packaging systems to different customers, based on an innovative method created in 1976. Herbs are collected in the morning and are immediately transported to the factories for: washing, drying, desiccation to a 6% moisture content, and stem cutting; 40% of the European market is supplied. In 1988, a new plant was built in California (USA). Y.G.
