Summary
The article presents all the formulas and equations needed for calculating the permeabilities and permeances to carbon dioxide and oxygen of thin films used for modified-atmosphere packaging of fresh fruit and vegetables. A flow chart of calculation and a sample program are also given. The models are applicable to HP-48, 41 and 28, respectively, and also for PC-compatible machines. The response of the calculations after data-entry was shorter than 6 minutes. An actual application of the program for strawberries is detailed.
