Summary

A CFC, R502, is banned and an HCFC, R22, will be banned shortly. For users, the fewer fluids that exist, the easier will be retrofitting, and making good use of ammonia is a guarantee of efficiency and durability. Using ammonia needs a licence and certain conditions: a minimal load, containment of the plant (refrigerant), fluid recovery in case of leak, a serious impact study, sufficient time to obtain authorization. The company QUIRI carried out research to define a product range from 100 to 1000 kilowatts and above, matching the above conditions. The results have been obtained with welded inox plate exchangers, with electronic direct expansion valves, a panel unit sealed and isolated from noise, an ammonia detector with 2 levels and an ammonia vapour absorber.
