Summary

The rates of respiration and ethylene production in various fruits and vegetables held in 0-60% CO2 at 25 deg C or 60% CO2 at 5-25 deg C were determined by an automated microcomputer system. In peaches, apples, tomatoes and broccoli, dose-dependent decreases of O2 uptake and ethylene production were observed during treatment with various concentrations of CO2 at 25 deg C. Bananas, lettuces and satsumas were studied also.
