RETROFITTING MOBILE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS WITH R134A.

Author(s) : CORR S.

Summary

THE AUTHORS SHOW THE CURRENT DIFFICULTIES AND THE DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES FOR REPLACING R12 WITH R134A IN MOBILE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS, MAINLY IN AUTOMOBILES. THE MAIN PROBLEM ARISES FROM THE LUBRICANT, BUT IT HAS APPARENTLY BEEN SOLVED WITH THE USE OF POLYALKYLENE GLYCOLS. IN CERTAIN CASES (WHEN THE MATERIAL CAN WITHSTAND THE HIGHER PRESSURES OF R134A), IT IS ENOUGH TO REPLACE THE FLUID AND THE OIL AND TO MODIFY SOME DETAILS (EG SAFETY VALVE). IN OTHER CASES, IT IS NECESSARY TO MODIFY ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT OR CERTAIN PARTS OF IT. NUMEROUS DETAILS AND TABLES ARE PROVIDED. P. L.
