Issues and findings after over 2 years of mobile air conditioner retrofits.

Author(s) : ROLOTTI G. D.

Summary

The paper summarises the last update on the information obtained after retrofitting two groups of vehicles during the summers of 1993 and 1994 from R12 to R134a and two oil types, polyalkhaline glycol and polyester. Both fleets included some vehicles that had their systems flushed of mineral oil, not flushed or kept with R12 to be used as controls. Charge loss from the systems, stability of the R134a refrigerant after "dirty" retrofits and failures encountered are dealt with. Finally, the paper emphasizes on the subjective feedback received from the users and its possible use in the education of the end consumer in all aspects of retrofitting automobile systems.
