Summary
A ternary mixture R125-R134a-R600 is proposed as a drop-in substitute for R12, in household refrigerators. The presence of R600, although in small percentage (5%), allows a mineral oil to be used. Tests carried out on a domestic refrigerator have shown that even if a phase separation occurs in the refrigerant-oil system, the operation of the refrigerating circuit is satisfactory in all cases. This mixture is not flammable and has been successfully tested for chemical stability, reliability of operation and energy efficiency.
