RFID is a promising technology that can provide numerous benefits in temperature monitoring and performance of perishable supply chains. The main limitations are: (a) a relatively high cost; (b) difficulties in calculating a return on investment; and (c) reliability and accuracy, which should be further improved for cold chain applications.
