Summary

The paper illustrates a recent model of scroll compressor that can be used at low temperature. A suction port at an intermediate pressure makes possible the subcooling of the condensed liquid, thus increasing the refrigerating effect and reducing the temperature at the outlet of the compressor; for extreme values of pressure ratio (i.e., for -45 deg C evaporation temperature and 45 deg C condensing temperature and beyond) a liquid injection through the port at intermediate pressure is necessary to limit the superheating of the compressed vapour. This compressor is proposed in a hermetic version and its energy efficiency is even better than that of a semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor, performing a single-stage compression.
