Simulation and performance analysis of basic GAX and advanced GAX cycles with ammonia-water and ammonia-water-lithium bromide absorption fluids.

Summary

The potential consequences of using a ternary mixture of ammonia-water-lithium bromide in the generator absorber heat exchange (GAX) and Branched GAX are discussed in the study. A modular, steady state absorption simulation model was used to investigate the potential of combining the above cycles with the new fluids. Performance parameters of the cycles, including COP and heat duties, were investigated as functions of different operating parameters in the cooling mode for both the ammonia-water binary and the ammonia-water-lithium bromide ternary mixtures. High performance potential of GAX and Branched GAX cycles using the ternary fluid mixture was achieved especially at the high range of firing temperatures exceeding 204 deg C. The cooling COP's have been improved by approximately 21%.
