Summary

RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENTS SHOWED THAT: (1) OPTIMAL TEMPERATURE FOR PROLONGING COLD STORAGE BEYOND ONE MONTH OF CHILL SENSITIVE VEGETABLES IS USUALLY JUST ABOVE THE CHILLING TEMPERATURE, BUT BELOW THIS SENSITIVE POINT IT CAUSES SIGNIFICANT SENESCENCE AND INFECTION BY PATHOGENS ; (2) EXCESSIVE ACCUMULATION OF CO2 (2%) IS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR WHICH WILL INDUCERUSSET OF GREEN BEAN, HOWEVER, CERTAIN AMOUNTS (3-6%) ARE BENEFICAL IN INHIBITING YELLOWING AND AGING OF CUCUMBER. GREEN BEAN, HOWEVER, SHOWED NO SENSITIVITY TO C2 H4 (1-2.5 PPM).
